"Download Service" for intermediate updates via Internet/Intranet:
DCAG now offers a download service for intermediate updates, so-called "bugfix updates" in the Internet and/or Intranet via the link http://stardiagnosis.daimlerchrysler.com.
This special repair software for the Star Diagnosis systems can be installed as required in addition to any STAR DIAGNOSIS update already performed.
The bugfix update CD (ADDON CD) will only be distributed on request to the workshops and not automatically. The reason is that not all systems, languages, sectors or models are affected by a certain software error. As a rule, the monthly update CD and/or DVD contains the problem solution from the ADDON CDs from earlier releases. The last three update statuses are treated with the bugfix update at maximum.

Access to the bugfix software is now possible via Internet/Intranet in addition. Workshops can report as usual to the Call Center and obtain information there which bugfix update will solve the vehicle or system problem. The customer can then record the software on his own CD via the link http://stardiagnosis.daimlerchrysler.com and install it in his STAR DIAGNOSIS system. The shipping time for the CD is eliminated.
The Internet page has been active since 12 September 2002. Direct access is possible from any office computer with Internet/Intranet access.

The ADDON files for the software solutions in the Internet are subdivided into sectors. Customers can select the sector with the left menu bar. Then the STAR DIAGNOSIS version can be selected for updating the STAR DIAGNOSIS system. All available ADDONs are offered as ZIP files. Instructions for recording the software on CD are given on the start page under the link "Help on downloading and recording CDs".
The bugfix updates from the Internet are not the complete STAR DIAGNOSIS software, but rather single files, which function only in combination with the basic installation on a STAR DIAGNOSIS system. For this reason, a password is not required to exclude misuse.
Provision of the bugfix updates via the Internet provides the workshops with the advantage that times during which the STAR DIAGNOSIS systems are not available can be reduced and customer satisfaction increased as a result of reduced time in the workshop. The download service is available to the workshops at no cost.*
