Modification notes
For Actros 2 vehicles
For all Actros 2 vehicles as of production date 11/2003 with code (GE2) Electronic drive control II or code (GE3) Mercedes PowerShift, a fixed start-off gear can be parameterized in the drive control (FR) control unit. This is done by selecting the 169.220 parameter "Start-off gear definition" in the "Vehicle parameters" parameter group. The start-off gear is then fixed at a defined gear step, irrespective of the vehicle's load condition. The drive control (FR) control unit however, will continue to adapt the start-off gear up to the smallest gear step to match the calculated road gradient.
The following gear stages can be selected:
12-speed transmission Gear 1 to 4
16-speed transmission Gear 1L to 2H
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For Actros 3 vehicles
On Actros 3 vehicles with code (GE7) Mercedes PowerShift 2, start-off gear limitation is now also possible. On Actros 3 vehicles before production date 09/2009 the software in the drive control (FR) control unit has to be updated.
The Star Diagnosis DAS Update 09/2009 must be installed for the software update process.
The 169.220 parameter "Start-off gear definition" can then be selected as with Actros 2 vehicles.
The following gear stages can be selected:
12-speed transmission Gear 1 to 4
16-speed transmission Gear 1L to 2H
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The following instructions must be noted when activating the 169.220 parameter "Start-off gear definition":
The function of 169.220 parameter "Start-off gear definition" is only active when the transmission is in automatic mode.
If the parameter is activated, the driver may have to manually adjust the start-off gear if the vehicle is heavily loaded. It is therefore recommended that the lowest gear be selected as the fixed start-off gear if the vehicle is often heavily loaded.
The shifting strategy of the transmission is not adjusted for a fixed start-off gear. If, for example, the parameterization is "2nd gear = start-off gear" and the vehicle is unladen, the transmission does not shift directly from 2nd gear to 6th gear. The shift jumps take place in several stages instead.
The "Start-off gear definition" parameterization is to be performed at customer request and is therefore not covered by warranty.
