1 | Place engine control/permanent brake operating lever on position "0" and switch off ignition | ||
2 | Remove step plate | Only on semitrailers/tractor combinations, except model 375.4, 944. | |
3 | Release and unplug Voith retarder (X97) connector | ||
4 | Detach Voith retarder connector (X97) from bracket (14) | ||
5 | Remove cover of profile ventilation (6) with bracket (14, 15) and remove spacer washer (8) | ||

6 | Remove valve element (2) | ||

7 | Remove float (4) and float cage (5) from retarder housing (11) | Only if the valve element (2) has detached from the float cage (5). | |

8 | Remove O-ring (3) from valve element (2) | ||
9 | Check profile ventilation (1) | ||
| Install | ||
10 | Grease new O-ring (3) and insert into the valve element (2) | ||
11 | Install profile ventilation (1) in retarder housing (11) | ||

12 | Insert spacer washer (8) and install cover of profile ventilation (6) with new gasket (7) and bracket (14, 15) | | |

13 | Install Voith retarder connector (X97) on the bracket (14) and connect plug | Check Voith retarder connector (X97) for damage and wear. | |
