Danger! | Risk of scalding from hot coolant spraying out | Do not open cap of the expansion reservoir or radiator unless coolant temperature is below 90 °C. Turn cap carefully to the first detent or slacken one turn. Wear protective clothing. | |

7 | Separate electrical connections at the transmission | ||
8 | Detach cable retainer (1) from transmission | ||
9 | Remove hydraulic lines (2) from clutch slave cylinder | Catch the emerging hydraulic fluid and then plug the connection fittings. Installation: Bleed clutch hydraulic system. | |
10 | Disconnect compressed air lines (3) of electropneumatic shift | ||
11 | Remove exhaust system | The tailpipe of the exhaust system does not have to be removed. | |
12 | Detach propeller shaft from transmission output flange (4) | In the process mark the propeller shaft on the sliding piece. Lift the rear axle slightly so that the propeller shaft can be turned for loosening the bolts. Installation: Install new nuts. | |
13 | Detach braces of engine compartment encapsulation on underbody | ||
14 | Support the transmission underneath and secure | Engine support device, engine hoist with major assemblies lifter or inspection pit lift. | |
15 | Support engine underneath and secure | Engine support device, engine hoist with major assemblies lifter or inspection pit lift. | |
16 | Remove engine and transmission brackets (5) at the front on left and right sides | The bolts for the right bracket are located under the small maintenance cover in the direction of travel on the right of the transmission maintenance cover. | |
17 | Unscrew bolts holding clutch housing to engine (14) | Installation: - Grease transmission shaft lightly with MB long-life grease. - Do not tilt transmission: The clutch housing flange must abut the engine flange. | |

18 | Move out transmission to the rear | Ensure sufficient clearance. | |
19 | Install in the reverse order | ||
