Inspect

Absolute cleanliness is essential when working on the automatic transmission.

Use lint-free rags.

Test the transmission for leaks before checking the oil level.

With large oil leakages, determine and eliminate the cause - subject to separate repair order.

Connect the HHT

Check the actual oil temperature.

Risk of accident from the vehicle starting off by itself when the engine is running. Risk of injury from bruises and burns if you put your hand near engine when it is started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not grasp hot or rotating parts.

Start engine

Apply service brake and shift through all selector lever positions.

Leave the transmission engaged at each selector lever position for a few seconds. Then shift the selector lever back to position "P".

Unscrew screw plug (2)

Installation : Replace seal (6).

With engine idling, allow transmission oil to heat up to between 35 °C and 45 °C

Check oil level while engine is running

The oil level in the transmission is correct when oil drips out of the overflow pipe (1).

Remove retaining cap (3) from oil filler neck (4)

The retaining cap (3) is destroyed when removed.

Remove plug (5)

Top up oil with engine running

Top up oil until it is discharged from the overflow pipe (1). Allow excess oil in the transmission to drain off.

Press on plug (5)

Insert plug (5) on filler pipe (1) until the locking clip latches in position.
