1 Mount joint flange on the drive pinion.
2 Position new collar nut.
3 Attach retainer wrench (01) to joint flange.
4 Tighten collar nut to 30 Nm.
5 Detach retainer wrench (01) from joint flange.
6 Check bearing play at joint flange using dial indicator.
If the bearing is not free of play, the tightening torque can be increased in steps of 10 Nm to a maximum of 60 Nm. If the bearing is not yet free from play at 60 Nm, the interior compression ring must be replaced. This requires total disassembly of the gear set.

7 Mark position of drive pinion relative to the edge of collar nut with pin or scribing needle.
8 Continue turning collar nut by 15° (a half bihexagon of the collar nut).
9 Crank joint flange at least 30 times using cordless screwdriver, 15 times clockwise and 15 times counterclockwise.
Cranking the joint flange is necessary to avoid faulty measurements.

10 Continue turning collar nut by a further 15° (a half bihexagon of the collar nut).
11 Crank joint flange at least 30 times using cordless screwdriver, 15 times clockwise and 15 times counterclockwise.
Cranking the joint flange is necessary to avoid faulty measurements.

12 Using the torque meter (02) determine the friction torque (total friction moment), using a cordless screwdriver, on the drive pinion.
The determined friction torque must be 0.1 to 0.3 Nm higher than the value noted previously. If the value is below or above this, the inner compression ring must be replaced. This requires total disassembly of the gear set.
Never adjust the friction torque by turning back the collar nut
