Danger! | Danger to life from lowering vehicle when working between wheels and body. Risk of injury by pinching or crushing when working on the air suspension. | Do not work between wheel and wheel well or in wheel box. Only carry out check and adjustment operations from underneath the vehicle. Secure areas with moving vehicle parts against unauthorized access.
1 | Secure vehicle against rolling
2.1 | Switch on ignition and select normal level | With operative air spring bellows
2.2 | Raise vehicle frame in area of defective air spring bellows | For defective and empty air spring bellows
3 | Insert spacer plate (1) between limit stop (2) and axle | Use steel washer as spacer plate. Spacer plate height: Front axle: approx. 50 mm Rear axle: approx. 100 mm
4.1 | Select lower level and switch off ignition | With operative air spring bellows
4.2 | Lower vehicle frame | For defective and empty air spring bellows
5 | Detach air line connection (3), deflate residual pressure from air spring bellows, and screw air line back on again | With operative air spring bellows
6 | Pry air spring bellows off supporting plate (4) and detach from piston (5)
7 | Clean supporting plate (4) and piston (5) and check for signs of corrosion | If a lot of corrosion is found on the piston:
Replace piston | |||
| Install | ||
8 | Coat contact surfaces on air spring bellows with soapy water or spray with a suitable assembly spray
9 | Position air spring bellows by turning to and fro onto piston (5) and supporting plate (4) | Observe installation position: The manufacturer's marking must not be upside down.
Danger! | Risk of accident caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running | Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
10 | Switch on ignition and if compressed air supply is insufficient, start the engine
11 | During the filling operation check that the air spring bellows are correctly seated. | The air spring bellows must not be twisted in themselves.
12 | Select normal level and remove spacer plate (1) from axle
13 | Check tire inflation pressure, correct if necessary
| |||
14 | Check vehicle level, adjust if necessary |
