 Danger!

Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform.

Align vehicle between columns of vehicle lift and position four support plates at vehicle lift support points specified by vehicle manufacturer.

Disconnect ground cable from battery

 Installation: Code radio, set clock, normalize power windows and set timer in vehicles with stationary heater.

Remove engine support with engine mount (12)

 Support transmission beforehand.

Remove exhaust bracket (13)

 Installation: Replace self-locking nuts (15).

Remove shield

Detach exhaust system from supports

 Detach using V-belt.

Detach propeller shaft (17) from transmission (1)

 Detach propeller shaft assembly (17) and pull to rear.

Separate plug connection of reversing light switch (X49/1)

Detach ground line (20)

 Danger!

Risk of poisoning caused by swallowing brake fluid. Risk of injury caused by brake fluid coming into contact with skin and eyes.

Only pour brake fluid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling brake fluid.

Remove cap (21) from bracket (8)

 Installation: First insert upper guide of cap (21), then clip in at the bottom. The retaining lugs must be heard to engage.

Unhook selector cable (7) at the bracket (8), rotate nut (9) counterclockwise and remove selector cable (7)

 Installation: Lightly grease ball joint and ensure that the spacer ring (10) is correctly seated.

Release locking pin (3) and pull out

Unhook shift rod (5) from transmission (1)

 Installation: Lightly grease ball joint.

Remove bolts (2) from cylinder crankcase and remove transmission (1) downwards at an angle

 Installation: Check seat of dowel pins and fitting sleeves.

In-line engine: Dowel pin on transmission (1) (2 pieces)

V- engine: Dowel pin on cylinder crankcase (2 pieces)

 Installation: In order to avoid damage to the pilot bearing, carefully insert transmission (1) with input shaft into pilot bearing without tilting.



Check thrust bearing and deep-groove ball bearing of crankshaft

 Check for noise, rough running, leaks and wear and replace if necessary.

Install in the reverse order

Inspect transmission oil level

 Correct oil level = 10 mm below bottom edge of filler opening.



 Carry out measurement e.g. with angled hexagon socket wrench.
