Checking cooling system for leaks

Remove/install

Danger!

Risk of injury to skin and eyes suffering scalding from contact with hot coolant spray. Risk of poisoning from swallowing coolant.

Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90 °C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage bottles.

Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and eye protection.

Open cap (2) on the expansion reservoir (1)

 Give a 1/2 turn anticlockwise, release pressure, then screw off the cap (2)



Set heater switch to maximum heating capacity



Inspecting

Check engine coolant level

correct if necessary.

Mount test cap (3) on coolant expansion tank (1)



Connect tester (4)

Pressurize the cooling system

 With new cylinder head gasket: Check cooling system for leaks, when engine has reached operating temperature.
Pressure about 1.4 bar

Check the condition of coolant and heater hoses and connecting points, checking for coolant loss; check the condition of hose clamps, and that they are correctly positioned

 If leaks are found:
replace hose clamps.
replace coolant hoses.
