BlueTec® technology
This service information has the purpose of explaining and guiding the dealers network on the new BlueTec technology, that will be incorporated in Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicles manufactured as from January 1st, 2012. This new technology aims at complying with the National Environmental Counsel - CONAMA resolution determining on the Air Pollution Control Program by Motor Vehicles - PROCONVE for heavy vehicles (Phase - P7). For further information on the program, refer to www.mma.gov.br.
The BlueTec technology is an exhaust gas aftertreatment system called "SCR - System of Selective Catalytic Reduction" which has the objective of reducing the emission of nitrogen oxide (NOx) through a chemical reaction and a reduction agent, for further details on the system refer to the GF14.40-B-0002A/B document. The nitric oxide (NOx) reduction agent is commercially known in Brazil, by ARLA32 (Automotive Reduction Liquid Agent) and in European Union as AdBlue. The reduction agent is an urea solution diluted in demineralized water, for further information refer to document AH14.40-B-0001-01A.are with
Care with BlueTec® technology fitted vehicles
Vehicles with BlueTec 5 technology are to be filled with diesel fuel with, a maximum of, 0.005 % sulfur content "S50".
Fill the SCR system reservoir only with ARLA32/ AdBlue.
ARLA32/ AdBlue contamination by other components may cause serious damages in the SCR system, for more information refer to the document SI14.40-B-0006A.
Always keep the ARLA32/ AdBlue reservoir filled with the solution in the correct proportion.
If the proportion of the solution is not correct, there will be an increase of NOx, consequently, the SCR system will limit the engine output, see document GF14.40-B-3021B.
Maintenance
Vehicles with BlueTec 5 technology have specific maintenance plans and intervals.
Repair and diagnose of the SCR system
There are special tools available for the repair and maintenance of the SCR system.
For ARLA 32 contamination test utilize test tape A 000 585 02 02.
For the SCR system diagnose there is a pre-determined routine in the STAR DIAGNOSIS.
For the analysis of ARLA 32 concentration and volume, there is a testing briefcase available, as workshop equipment.
To measure ARLA 32 volume, we recommend, in the workshop, the utilization of a separate injection nozzle utilized only for testing. See document WF58.50-B-1440-04A.
The testing briefcase can be delivered with the analog refractometer or digital (optional) to measure ARLA 32 concentration.
ATA analog refractometer
ATA - Automatic temperature compensation
Analog visor with focus adjusting
Individual and subjective reading
Digital ATA refractometer
ATA - Automatic temperature compensation
Liquid crystal visor
Enables collective, quick and direct read-out
