Risk of poisoning from swallowing coolant. | Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90 °C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers. | |
1 | Drain the cooling system | ||

Catch the coolant, change it if necessary. | |||
2 | Remove the rocker mechanism | ||
3 | Remove the push rods (2) | Installation: Oil the push rods with engine oil and pay attention to their correct sering in the valve lifters. | |
4 | Remove the PLD injection tube (16) | ||
5 | Remove the constant throttle pipes (9) on the cylinder head (1) | Installation: Replace the sealing rings (8). | |
6 | Remove the bolts (12) from the exhaust manifold (14) on the cylinder head to be removed | Slacken the manifold bolts on the other cylinder heads. | |

7 | Remove the bolts of the cylinder head (6) | ||
Installation: Oil the bolts (6) with engine oil, observe the tightening sequence and apply the values valid for used bolts or new bolts. Do not mix used and new screws on the same head, use four used screws or four new screws. | |||

8 | Remove the cylinder head (1) | In order not to damage the installed injection nozzle, lay the cylinder head on its side. | |
Installation: Seat the cylinder head, fitting it perfectly on the guides (13). | |||
9 | Remove the cylinder head gasket (15) | Clean the tapped holes and examine the engine block deck. | |
Installation: Replace the gasket (15) and fit it perfectly on the guides (13) on the block. Observe the assembly position of the gasket (15). | |||
10 | Remove the gasket (11) from the exhaust manifold | Installation: Replace the exhaust manifold gasket (11). | |

11 | Check the gaskets (11) on the remaining cylinder head manifolds, for damages, and replace if necessary | ||
12 | Measure the length (L) of the cylinder head bolts (6) | Replace the bolt (6), if the maximum permissible length (L) is exceeded. | |

13 | Clean the cylinder head (1) and check for cracks | In case of irregularity, replace the cylinder head. | |
14 | Check the cylinder head (1) mating surface for unevenness | ||

16 | Install on the reverse order | ||

Wear buttoned-up and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. | |
17 | Starting the engine | Do not crank the engine continuously for more than 30 seconds. If the engine does not fire within this interval, wait approximately 1 minute and crank it again. | |
18 | Check the engine oil pressure with the engine idling | Do not accelerate the engine until oil pressure is shown on the indicator. The oil pressure will have to be reestablished in approximately 10 seconds. | |
