As of approx. 11.06 in the Wörth plant non-driven axles, model designation 739.5, 749.108/110, are installed on the wheel hub with compact bearing (new wheel head).
The basic features of the new wheel head are:
The wheel hub and compact bearing form one component.
As the bearing play, caused by the design, is preadjusted and can no longer be adjusted, the steps previously required for this are discontinued during repair and maintenance operations
The brake disk and wheel flange ring are attached to the wheel hub together with the same bolts.
This construction means that it is possible to replace the brake disk when the wheel hub is installed.
The axle model designation and the code letters which are part of the axle no. have not changed.
It can be recognized at the wheel flange ring whether a previous axle with tapered roller bearing or a modified axle with compact bearing is concerned.??

We have prepared new repair instructionsAR33.20-W-0310I for the removal and installation of the wheel hub with compact bearing.
So that the wheel hub can be removed from the axle stub or pushed onto the axle stub smoothly and without jamming the compact bearing in the wheel hub, the assembly sleeve 739 589 02 14 00 special tool has been newly developed.
These repair instructions must also be used for leading/trailing axles until separate documents for these axles are recorded in the WIS.
