Authorizing TELE AID emergency call
For the ECE version, the authorization is performed at the factory; this means that the services are fully operational when the vehicle is delivered to the customer. The TELE AID application only needs to be filled out with the customer and then faxed to the Customer Assistance Center (CAC).
The following description is for informational purposes only:
With the authorization the service provider (Tegaron company) authorizes to actuate an TELE AID emergency call. The authorization is vehicle and not person-related.
Authorization is required in the following cases:
When the system is initially started up.
When the front telecommunications control unit (N112) is replaced
When the vehicle owner changes
When the service contract time expires (this process automatically is completed in the background).
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
During authorization a check is accomplished via mobile telephone:
The validity of the SIM card installed in the control unit (for TELE AID) (N112)
The vehicle identification number (VIN)
If the system is not authorized a TELE AID emergency call is not possible. In this case "only" an emergency call to the standard 112 number (without an emergency call telegram) is transmitted; such a call does not require authorization.
If the system is not authorized, the indicator lamp in the SOS pushbutton switch (S93/3) illuminates and an error message appears on the display in the instrument cluster.
Misuse of emergency call alarm is subject to punishment!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Procedure when alarm is triggered erroneously
If an emergency call is triggered erroneously in the workshop it is not possible to interrupt it even disconnecting the battery. In this case always wait until voice contact is made with police. Then inform police of unintentional actuation to prevent rescue vehicles from starting their rescue service.
Authorization TELE AID telediagnosis
With the authorization, the service provider (Mercedes-Benz Customer Assistance Center CAC) allows the triggering of a telediagnosis call (roadside assistance call).
Triggering a TELE AID information call. The authorization is vehicle and not person-related.
If the system is not authorized, a TELE AID diagnosis call or TELE AID information call is not possible.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If the system is not authorized, the indicator lamp in the pushbutton switch (S93/3) illuminates and an error message appears on the display in the instrument cluster (A1).
Authorization is required in the following cases:
When the system is initially started up.
When the control unit (N112) is replaced
When the vehicle owner changes
During authorization a check is accomplished via mobile telephone:
The validity of the SIM card installed in the control unit (for TELE AID) (N112)
The vehicle identification number (VIN)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In order to ensure that a malfunction does not occur during the authorization procedure, the following actions must be avoided during the process:
Triggering a telediagnosis
Switching off the ignition
Switching off the telephone
Setting TELE AID to diagnosis mode (via STAR diagnosis).

Authorization procedure for TELE AID emergency call, TELE AID telediagnosis
Steps to be completed first:
The salesperson must submit the application together with the user and complete the transfer process to the user.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Application and application shipping for TELE AID
The salesperson must completely fill out the TELE AID application together with the user and submit it.
When filling out the application, ensure that the data (chassis number, vehicle license plate, etc. ) are completely and correctly entered, otherwise it will not be possible to perform the authorization.
After the application is filled out, send it off to the CAC ( i.e. by fax).
Fax no.: 0031-433 56 2313
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Reading out DTC's
Read out the fault codes (DTCs) from the control unit (N112) with STAR Diagnosis.
The chassis number that is stored in the control unit (N112) must be compared to the chassis number in the vehicle registration.
If there are no faults in the vehicle or the control unit (N112), the CAC should be contacted.
The CAC helps authorizing TELE AID. Chassis number and fault codes are required for this purpose. Moreover, they check whether the access authorization date coincide with the date specified by CAC.
The CAC clarifies together with dealer the error cause for the services (TELE AID emergency call/telediagnosis).
Then authorization is performed again.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Authorization when replacing the control unit
When a control unit is replaced (N112), the Telematics SIM card remains in the control unit (N112). The replacement unit already has an SIM card installed in it.
To ensure that the services function properly after the replacement, the serial number of the new Telematics SIM card (ICCID) must be read out of the control unit (N112) with the DAS and sent along with the VIN to the CAC. To report this information to the CAC, you can use the form "Replacement of control unit/post-registration of the TELE AID Telematic Services Control Unit ID" B20.601 0018820B. The service will be fully functional again only after the CAC has received and processed this data.
If it is not possible to transfer the code data from the old control unit (N112) to the new one (N112) by means of the DAS, an authorization process to compare the service parameters must be performed with the CAC.
To complete this process, the control unit (N112) must be able to communicate with the CAC.
To do this, follow the steps described in the DAS.
