Function prerequisites:

15R Circuit 15 R "ON"

A data transfer between the driver-side SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1) and the front overhead control panel control unit (N70) only takes place if the data has changed or one of the two control units has been initialized. Operation is interrupted when circuit 15R goes "OFF".

Windshield wiper control

Switch position I = interval = speed stage 0 ... 15

Switch position II = stage 1 = speed stage 9

Switch position III = stage 2 = speed stage 15

Continuous wiper control with a reversing wiper (reversible wiper system UWA) is used. The speed is controlled via the serial communication interface of the driver-side SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1). The power semiconductors for the wiper motor (M6/1) are located next to the wiper motor (M6/1).

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Switch positions

In combination switch (S4) position: interval (rain sensor position) the wiper requests are issued via the front overhead control panel control unit (N70) of the rain/light sensor (B38/2).

If another wiper position is selected using the combination switch (S4) , the request is sent directly to the wiper by the driver-side SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1).

The combination switch (S4) information and the requests from the front overhead control panel control unit (N70) are provided by the interior CAN.

Interval wiping (continuous wiper control by rain/light sensor (B38/2))

Automatic wiper control (AWS) is a driving assistance system and must be regarded as a convenience function only. Top priority for switching on the wipers always belongs to the combination switch (S4). The signal evaluation and the AWS algorithm are in the rain/light sensor.B38/2 Information such as the driving speed, the wiper switch position, the ambient light conditions and the outside temperature are received by the front overhead control panel control unit (N70) and processed using the implemented algorithm. The wiper system is operated via the CAN by the driver-side SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1).

The wiper is actuated in accordance with the detected degree of wetness and the wetting frequency by:

Individual wipes

Continuous wipe

Continuous wiping with selection of required wiper speed.

The interval period is determined by the rain/light sensor (B38/2) (up to stage 2 continuous wiping). If communication with the front overhead control panel control unit (N70) fails, the interval wiping function is activated at switch setting I. If interval wiping at position 0 is transferred, wiping takes place immediately. If interval wiping is interrupted by a wiper function, the interval period terminates.

Interval times (Emergency mode):

1st interval time T11 = 5s 1s

2nd interval time T12 = 1.5s [ T11 (with automatic speed reduction)

Rain sensor operation is activated by switching to the "Interval" wiper position and the CAN message that is subsequently generated by the driver-side SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1) via the front overhead control panel control unit (N70).

The driver-side SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1) receives the interval wipe request via the interior CAN.
