Warning | Risk of injury to skin or eyes from hydraulic fluid spraying out under pressure.Risk of poisoning from swallowing hydraulic fluid. | Depressurize hydraulic system completely before starting any work on it. Wear protective clothing and safety glasses.
Danger | Risk of death when working on component parts and systems with U >= 30 V alternating voltage (AC) or U >= 60 V direct voltage (DC) | Do not touch damaged or defective live component parts and lines or non-insulated electrical connections and lines.

| Remove | ||
1 | Open engine hood and secure against falling down
2 | Unscrew cover (2) from expansion reservoir (1)
Fill and bleed | |||
3 | Fill expansion reservoir (1) up to "MAX" marking with hydraulic fluid
| Hydraulic fluids (Specification 345.0) | ||
Steering gear oil | |||
4 | Switch on electric drive and slowly turn steering wheel five times in succession from steering stop to steering stop | Check fill level in expansion reservoir (1) with assistant, if necessary add hydraulic fluid.
5 | Switch off electrical drive
6 | Check fill level in expansion reservoir (1) and, if necessary, add up to "MAX" marking
| Hydraulic fluids (Specification 345.0) | ||
7 | Switch on electric drive and turn steering wheel five times in succession from steering stop to steering stop | If loud noise occurs then the hydraulic system has to be bled as per operation steps 9 to 14.
8 | Switch off electrical drive
9 | Check fill level in expansion reservoir (1) and, if necessary, add up to "MAX" marking
| Hydraulic fluids (Specification 345.0) | ||
10 | Switch on electric drive and move steering wheel slowly from steering stop to steering stop so that the remaining air can escape from the hydraulic system | Check fill level in expansion reservoir (1) with assistant, if necessary add hydraulic fluid.
11 | Switch off electrical drive
12 | Check fill level in expansion reservoir (1) and, if necessary, add up to "MAX" marking
| Hydraulic fluids (Specification 345.0) | ||
13 | Switch on electric drive and turn steering wheel five times in succession from steering stop to steering stop | If loud noise can still be heard, let the vehicle stand still for several hours and bleed the hydraulic system again. Any air that is still in the hydraulic system after bleeding again escapes because of the hydraulic system's independent ventilation during normal driving.
14 | Switch off electrical drive
15 | Check fill level in expansion reservoir (1) and, if necessary, add up to "MAX" marking
| Hydraulic fluids (Specification 345.0) | ||
| Install | ||
16 | Close cover (2) on expansion reservoir (1)
17 | Close engine hood |
