Danger! | Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. | Align vehicle between the columns of the and position the four support plates below the lifting platform support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
Danger! | Risk of injury caused by pinching or crushing when working on springs or spring bodies that are under load | Use only approved tensioning devices; shield off hazard area if necessary.
| Notes on self-locking nuts and bolts | All models | |
1 | Bleed brake cylinder (2) | Actuate the parking brake so that the brake cylinder (2) is operated by spring force and is bled simultaneously.
2 | Bleeding the air suspension system | Ensure that the air spring bellows and reservoir are unpressurized.
3 | Lift/jack up vehicle | After lifting up, the wheel-engaging lifts must not be removed and the vehicle must be secured with jack stands (see operator's manual), otherwise there is a danger
4 | Remove propeller shaft | When removing the propeller shaft ensure that its parts which are pushed into one another cannot slide apart other there is an increased risk of injury for persons.
If the propeller shaft is separated at the sliding piece, the position of the parts must be identified relative to one another beforehand.
5 | Detach compressed-air hoses (1) and detach the electrical connection (5) from brake cylinder (2) | Mark the compressed air hoses (1) relative to the connections on the brake cylinder in order to avoid a brake system malfunction. All brake hoses must be depressurized.
6 | Separate electrical connection of brake wear indicator (4) and detach from rear axle | Installation: Install new tie straps.
7 | Detach vent line of rear axle housing (3)
8 | Separate electrical connector ABS (6) and detach cable from rear axle | Installation: Install new tie straps.
9 | Detach shock absorber (10) from spring support (8)
10 | Remove longitudinal member (9).
| |||
| |||
| |||
11 | Remove anti-roll bar (7)
12 | Remove serrated bolts and remove follower joint (12) between the rear axle and substructure | - Mark the location of any shims. - Tie up the bracket of the air suspension valve linkage (13).
Installation: Install the marked shims and follower joint (12) in the same position again.
| |||
| |||
| |||
13 | Lower the rear axle by moving down the wheel-engaging lifts and move out under the vehicle | Secure rear axle to prevent it from tilting.
Installation: Do not damage the air suspension pistons (11) when running up the rear axle.
14 | Detach air suspension piston (11)
15 | Detach spring support (8) from rear axle
16 | Install in the reverse order | Installation: When installing wear parts should be checked for re-usability.
17 | Check, correct oil level in rear axle
| Rear axle - check fluid level, adjust to correct level |
