Danger! | Risk of injury by trapping and crushing when tilting the cabin | During back and forth cab tilting, stay away from tilting area and take preventive measures to avoid non-authorized people from entering tilting area. Always tilt the cab to its final position and secure it with the safety device.
1.1 | Tilt the cab. | Trucks with forward cab (688 and 693).
Trucks with forward cab (979).
Danger! | Risk of injury by trapping and crushing when opening and closing the engine hood | Keep area clear of people and objects during hood tilting.
1.2 | Tilting the engine hood. | Trucks with conventional cab.
Danger! | Risk of accident by involuntary movement with engine running.Risk of injury by trapping and crushing when opening and closing the engine hood | Watch out for involuntary movements in your vehicle.Use closed and well fastened work clothes.Do not touch in heated parts or moving.
2 | Starting the engine. | ||
3 | Check the turbocharger (1) regarding noise or unusual vibration. | Noise and unusual vibration can be caused by damage on the turbocharger rotors and lack of leak tightness in intake system, supercharger and exhaust.
4 | Check the leak tightness in the pipe between air filter and turbocharger (1).If necessary, fix it. | Access of strange material damages the turbocharger rotors (1).
5 | Check the leak tightness in supercharging system pipes.If necessary, fix it. | Leaks can be verified by touching and using soapy water on entire pipe, connections and hoses.
6 | Check for leak tightness on the exhaust system. | Leaks are detected by discoloration by heating leak area.
7 | Stop engine. | Wait engine cools down.
8 | Remove flange with engine brake system.
9 | Remove turbocharger inlet hose.
10 | Check rotors regarding damages caused by strange material. | Strange material which enters into intake or exhaust system can damage turbocharger rotors.Small particles wear out the blades leading edge.Larger and tough particles tend to rip or cut the blades. Soft material such as: paper, oakum or rubber pieces will bend the blades back, in the opposite direction to rotor rotation. If occurs damages caused by strange material, it is essential a complete cleaning in the exhaust collector and air intake system.
Replace damaged turbocharger (1).
11 | Check the free working of axle (2) and axial and radial clearances. | Turbocharger (1) axle (2) must turn softly and uniformly.Generally, excessive axial and radial clearance causes friction between turbocharger housing and rotors, causing noises.
In the event of damages, replace the turbocharger (1).
12 | Check the control butterfly (3), axle (4) and actuator (5) status.
| |||
In the event of damages in butterfly (3), crimped axle (4) or with excessive and damages/leaks clearance in the actuator (5), replace the turbocharger (1).
13 | Install the flange with engine braking system.
14 | Install the turbocharger inlet hose. |
