Danger! | Risk of accident caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury caused by contusions and burns when working in engine during starting procedure | Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving.
1 | Bring engine to operating temperature (approx. 80 °C) | Test compression pressure only when engine is at normal operating temperature.
2 | Remove air cleaner housing
3 | Remove spark plugs | Remove only one spark plug at each cylinder.
| Replace spark plugs | ||
4 | Crank engine with starter | Do not crank engine at steering lock but use contact switch of the compression recorder.
In order to remove the combustion residue from the cylinders, crank the engine for about 5 seconds with the starter.
| Check | ||
5 | Insert compression tester into spark plug bore | Compression recorder
6 | Open throttle valve | ||
7 | Crank engine with starter | Do not crank engine at steering lock but use contact switch of the compression recorder.
8 | Carry out test procedure at the remaining cylinders in the same way
9 | Compare measurments obtained with the specified pressures
If the pressure is below the minimum compression pressure or if the permissible difference between individual cylinders is exceeded:
Inspect cylinders for leaks
10 | Install in the reverse order |
