Remove

Switch off ignition and store transmitter key outside of transmission range (min. 2  m).

Release electrical plug (1) from electrical wiring harness.

 For this purpose, cut through cable tie (2).



Check

Check delivery condition of digital tachograph (DTCO) control unit (A56).

 The information regarding manufacturer, device type and serial number on the model plate must correspond to the information on the delivery note.

 The device seal as well as the seal for the battery compartment must be intact.

Check buffer battery of digital tachograph (DTCO) control unit (A56).


When replacing the buffer battery, the power supply from the vehicle must be guaranteed.
Otherwise commissioning of the digital tachograph (DTCO) control unit (A56) will not be possible.

 Do not yet install digital tachograph (DTCO) control unit (A56).

 The manufacturing date is determined from the details on the model plate. The manufacturing date is coded:
"A to M" for the month of manufacture "January to December" and "YY" for the year of manufacture, e.g. "K18" for the manufacturing date "October 2018".
The manufacturing date of the digital tachograph (DTCO) control unit (A56) must not be older than 12 months.
During replacement, the sealing cap on the battery compartment is destroyed and must be replaced.

If the manufacturing date is older than 12 months,



Replace buffer battery.



Install

Retrofit travel and speed sensor (B6/12) on transfer case (3).

Supplement special equipment in Vehicle Documentation (VeDoc).

 Designation of corresponding special equipment: Code JD1 (Tachograph with digital technology).
Remove existing code JV6 (Pre-installation for tachograph).

 Document the serial number of the digital tachograph (DTCO) control unit (A56) in VeDoc.

Perform SCN coding on instrument cluster (IC) control unit (A1/1).



 Under the "Control unit adaptations" menu item follow the instructions for "SCN coding".

 Do not yet remove vehicle diagnosis system.

Perform SCN coding at central gateway (CGW) (N93).



Have initial calibration performed by authorized personnel.

 When doing so, observe the operator's manual supplied with the digital tachograph (DTCO) control unit (A56).

Attach sealing plate.

 Attach sealing plate to B-pillar on driver's side below lock striker.



Check

Perform check in accordance with respective national regulations.

 In Germany, the check must be performed in accordance with § 57b StVZO (Straßenverkehrs-Zulassungs-Ordnung - German Regulations Authorizing the Use of Vehicles for Road Traffic).
