07.11.2017 | Information on the procedure for a defective on-board electrical system battery added. | Penultimate information block | |
16.11.2017 | Part number for on-board electrical system battery (Europe-wide except Germany) added. | Penultimate information block and parts ordering note table |
Due to recent events, We would like to point out the following:
As part of preparation procedure for the market launch we were aware that the above-mentioned vehicle model exhibit an unusually high quiescent current. This can occur, in particular, on lengthy transport routes and idle times, lead to deep discharging of the on-board electrical system battery A 470 982 15 00. To rectify the reason for the fault we will soon conduct a field campaign that has been scheduled for some time. To avoid any damage to the on-board electrical system battery in the meantime, the vehicle's on-board electrical system battery has to be regularly recharged with immediate effect as described in this service information.
On all vehicles of the above-mentioned model that can be accessed by a dealer, the on-board electrical system battery is to be recharged using an external charger. Check to ensure that the on-board electrical system battery is fully charged at the end of the charging cycle (see AR54.10-S-1130P).
Otherwise the on-board electrical system battery will be damaged.
Until further notice, the ground line has to be disconnected on immobilized vehicles, after charging the on-board electrical system battery, (see AR54.10-S-0003P).
Otherwise the on-board electrical system battery will suffer deep discharging again.
Never leave the on-board electrical system battery in uncharged state.
Otherwise this can lead to sulfating of the lead plates and premature failure in the on-board electrical system battery.
The scope of work described here can be settled, if necessary, through the usual warranty channels using damage code 54001 53 (Battery – insufficient effect/power).
The following operation items are applicable:
54 1120 Remove/install on-board electrical system battery
54 1140 Recharge battery (with battery removed)
54 7989 Disconnect/connect ground line of on-board electrical system battery (during repair work)
If, after a battery test, (see AR54.10-S-1129P) it is determined that the on-board electrical system battery is defective and a recharge is no longer possible, it must be replaced. The planned on-board electrical system battery A 470 982 15 00 is however currently not available. Consequently, the on-board electrical system battery A 001 982 80 08 26 (Europe-wide except Germany) or the on-board electrical system battery A 001 982 80 08 27 (for Germany only) may be used as an alternative replacement, in exceptional cases.
In case of requirement, the following operation items are applicable here:
54 1120 Remove/install on-board electrical system battery
54 1107 Check condition of starter battery (battery removed) Terminal stamp: .......... Batt. part no.: ..........Test code: ..........
54 1126 Replace on-board electrical system battery (after check)
As soon as this special measures is no longer required, information revoking it will be released.
