The following components integrated in the instrument cluster are not shown:
Warning buzzer (A1h1)
Function check of turn signal lights, acoustic (A1h2)
Location
The instrument cluster is located in the dashboard on the driver-side.
Task
The instrument cluster has the following tasks:
Reading in of signals
Evaluation of input factors
Actuation of components
Output of acoustic and information warnings
Output of signals
Reading in of signals
The instrument cluster reads in the input factors via the following connections:
Interior CAN (CAN B)
Chassis CAN (CAN E) (up to 31.05.2013) or chassis CAN 2 (CAN E2) (as of 01.06.2013)
Interior CAN
The signals are read in by the instrument cluster over the interior CAN.
The functions that use these signals are described in the individual function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).
Chassis CAN (up to 31.05.2013) or chassis CAN 2 (as of 01.06.2013)
The signals are read in by the instrument cluster via the chassis CAN up to 31.05.2013 or via chassis CAN 2 as of 01.06.2013.
The functions that use these signals are described in the individual function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).
Evaluation of input factors
The input factors that have been read in are evaluated by the integrated microprocessor and the relevant components are then actuated.
Actuation of components
The instrument cluster directly actuates all internal components (e.g. indicator and warning lamps, stepper motors of displays, multifunction display) as well as the instrument illumination.
Output of acoustic and information warnings
To issue warning and information tones which are requested by the systems installed in the vehicle, the instrument cluster actuates the warning buzzer or the acoustic function check for the turn signal lights (output of turn signal ticking).
Output of signals
The signals are issued over the following connections:
Interior CAN
Chassis CAN (up to 31.05.2013) or chassis CAN 2 (as of 01.06.2013)
Interior CAN
The signals are sent by the instrument cluster over the interior CAN.
The functions that use these signals are described in the individual function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).
Chassis CAN (up to 31.05.2013) or chassis CAN 2 (as of 01.06.2013)
The signals are sent by the instrument cluster via the chassis CAN up to 31.05.2013 or via chassis CAN 2 as of 01.06.2013.
The functions that use these signals are described in the individual function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).
