Danger ! | Risk of injury. Moving parts can pinch, crush or, in extreme cases even sever extremities. | No parts of the body or limbs should be within the operating area of the mechanism when the components are moving.
Danger ! | Risk of injury to skin or eyes from hydraulic fluid spraying out under pressure.Risk of poisoning from swallowing hydraulic fluid. | Depressurize hydraulic system completely before starting any work on it. Wear protective clothing and safety glasses.
1 | Open engine hood | See information from vehicle manufacturer.
2 | Steering gear ( 1 ) in area of pressure line ( 2 Cleaning
3 | Raise front axle and lower onto jack stands | The wheels must move easily.
4 | Check wheel angle and adjust if necessary | If the wheel angle is changed, the hydraulic limiter must be adjusted.
5 | Check center steering position on steering gear ( 1 ) adjust if necessary | Check and adjust center steering position on steering gear

Check hydraulic limiter for right and left steer
Danger ! | Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. | Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.
12 | Start engine and run at an increased idle speed of approx. 800 rpm until the steering gear oil is heated up to approx. 50 °C | Use a commercially available infrared-temperature measuring instrument to measure the oil temperature on the steering gear oil line.
13 | Turn steering wheel with normal force of the hand up to the mechanical stop to the right
14 | On a steering wheel pulled opposite to the mechanical stop, read off the adjustment pressure of the pressure reduction valve on the pressure gauge ( 6 ) and note down
15 | Perform check for right steer similar to procedure for left steer and note down
16 | Compare noted values against adjustment pressure of pressure reduction valves | If the noted values deviate from the specified values, the hydraulic limiter has to be adjusted. Perform operation steps 17 to 21. If the values match, continue with operation step 22.
Adjustment pressure of steering limiter valves
Adjust hydraulic limiter for right and left steer
17 | Remove cover ( 7 ) over adjustment screw for limiter at left ( 8 )
18 | Adjust adjustment screw for left limiter ( 8 ) by turning it
Removing the left limiter adjustment screw ( 8 ) increases the value for the hydraulic limiter.
Inserting the left limiter adjustment screw ( 8 ) reduces the value for the hydraulic limiter.
19 | Turn steering wheel with normal force of the hand up to the stop to the left and observe the adjustment pressure of the left pressure reduction valve on the pressure gauge ( 6 )
If the specified value is not reached, the left limiter adjustment screw ( 8 ) has to be turned accordingly (see operation step 18). Repeat testing and adjustment procedure until the pressure reduction valve's adjusting pressure is correct.
Adjustment pressure of steering limiter valves
20 | Mount cover ( 7 ) over adjustment screw for limiter at left ( 8 )
21 | Perform adjustment for right steer on right limiter adjustment screw ( 9 ), in the same manner as for the left steer | Operation steps 17 to 20.
22 | Turn off engine | ||
23 | Remove pressure gauge ( 6 ) with test hose ( 5 ) from test connection ( 4 )
24 | Detach pressure line ( 2 ) from connection fitting ( 3 )
25 | Detach connection fitting ( 3 ) from steering gear ( 1 )
