 The oil filler screws and oil drain screws should always be replaced after being unscrewed.

The new oil filler screws and drain screws as well as the tapped holes must be cleaned with a special cleaning spray and provided with a special sealing compound.

Remove exhaust heat shield (105c)

Remove bolts from propeller shaft intermediate bearing (106a).

 Installation: Tighten bolts of propeller shaft intermediate bearing (106a) only after attaching flexible coupling at rear axle center assembly.

Detach rear propellor shaft (106) from rear differential assembly

 Flexible disk remains on propeller shaft.

 Installation: Assemble the driveshaft.

Measure and note total friction torque of drive pinion

 Move rear axle shafts to approximately horizontal position. If necessary, compress both rear springs with spring compressor.

Slacken and unscrew hexagon collar nut (40)

 Do not unlock crimped collar locking device of hexagon collar nut (40) for loosening.

 Installation: Install new hexagon collar nut (40) and tighten in stages until the friction torque measured previously is reached.

 Observe minimum tightening torque.

 The rear axle center assembly must be replaced if the minimum tightening torque is not achieved.

 Mixing of old universal hypoid gear oil and the new FE hypoid gear oil should be avoided due to the better fuel economy.
