Removing

Remove steering knuckle (13) complete with wheel hub

Remove cellulose material sealing ring (9) and radial shaft sealing rings (10, 11) from steering knuckle (13)

Check needle bearing (12) in steering knuckle (13); remove needle bearing (12) if necessary



Remove input shaft (6) from axle housing (1)

Detach needle bearing inner race (3) from input shaft (6)

 Not if a new input shaft (6) is to be installed.

Roughen needle bearing inner race (3) and break open using a chisel.

Detach radial shaft sealing ring (4) from input shaft (6)

 Not if a new input shaft (6) is to be installed.

Remove O-ring (5) from input shaft (6)

 Not if a new input shaft (6) is to be installed.

Check needle bearing inner race (8); detach from input shaft (6) if necessary

 Not if a new input shaft (6) is to be installed.

Roughen needle bearing inner race (8) and break open using a chisel.

Remove needle bearing (2) from axle housing (1)



Prepare bearing seat in axle housing (1) and install new needle bearing (2)

 The needle bearing (2) must always be glued in otherwise it can move and the needle bearing seat in the axle housing can be damaged.

Clean bearing seat in steering knuckle (13) and needle bearing (12)



Install radial shaft sealing ring (11) in steering knuckle (13) with dust lip pointing outward



 Pack the space between the dust lip and sealing lip with long-life grease.

Install radial shaft sealing ring (10) in steering knuckle (13) with dust lip pointing outward



Insert new cellulose seal ring (9) in steering knuckle (13) with chamfered side pointing inward

 On the input shaft (6), grease the contact surface for the cellulose seal ring (9).

Heat up thrust ring (7) and needle bearing inner race (8) to approx. 100 °C and push onto input shaft (6) until it makes contact

 The seat of the thrust ring (7) and needle bearing inner race (8) on the input shaft (6) must be free of oil and grease.


