 Danger

Risk of death from lowering vehicle when working between wheels and body. Risk of injury from pinching or crushing when working on the air suspension.

Testing and repair work between the wheel and wheel arch or in the wheel well should only be performed if the vehicle is secured using suitable support fixtures to prevent it from lowering.
Adjustment operations should only be performed from underneath the vehicle.
Use only suitable support fixtures to secure the vehicle frame or vehicle axles in order to prevent them from lowering.
If necessary, additionally use suitable support fixtures in order to prevent other moving vehicle parts that are in the working area from lowering, or use suitable retaining devices to prevent these parts from moving suddenly and without warning.
Secure areas with moving vehicle parts against unauthorized access.

Remove

Release compressed air from air suspension system

Raise vehicle

Unscrew compressed air line (7) at air suspension bellows (1)

Close off compressed air line (7) with stop plugs

 Record plug

Unscrew bolt (4)

 Depending on the version, screw/bolt (4) may be an inch thread bolt. An Allen socket wrench of size 7/32 is required for removing the screw/bolt (4).

Remove bolts (5)

Remove air suspension bellows (1) with piston (2)



Check

Check air suspension bellows (1) and piston (2) for damage

If damage is present



Replace air suspension bellows (1) or piston (2)

Check compressed air line (7) for damage

If damage is present



Repair or replace compressed air line (7)



Clean

Clean the contact surfaces on mounting bracket (3) and crossmember (6)



Install

Insert air suspension bellows (1) with piston (2) between mounting bracket (3) and crossmember (6)

Screw in screws/bolts (4, 5) finger-tight

 Depending on the version, screw/bolt (4) may be an inch thread bolt. An Allen socket wrench of size 7/32 is required for screwing in the screw/bolt (4).

Pull off stop plug from compressed air line (7)

 Record plug

Screw in compressed air line (7) into air suspension bellows (1)

 Air coupling at compressor, valve unit, air suspension bellows, compressed air reservoir

Lower vehicle far enough until the wheels make contact with the floor

Fill air suspension with compressed air

 When filling the air suspension, note that the air suspension bellows (1) roll over the pistons (2).

Screw bolts (5) tight

 Bolt, upper air bellows to air bellows crossmember

Tighten bolt (4)

 Bolt, lower air bellows to the air bellows mounting console
