 Warning

Risk of injury to skin and eyes suffering scalding from contact with hot coolantspray. Risk of poisoning from swallowing coolant.

Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90 °C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers.
Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.

Drain off

Slowly open cap of coolant expansion reservoir, relieve overpressure, and remove cap.

Remove front and lower center engine compartment lining.

Remove oil cooler (1) of automatic transmission from fan unit with lines attached.

Slide drain hose onto drain fitting (2) at cooler.

Open drain screw (3), drain coolant, and collect it in a suitable container.


Unscrew drain screw (3) only until coolant drains off.
Permanent damage to drain screw (3) will occur otherwise.

 Observe regulations to dispose of coolant.

Pour in

Tighten drain screw (3) and remove drain hose.

Attach oil cooler (1) of automatic transmission to fan unit.

Add coolant and bleed engine cooling system.

Check engine cooling system for leak tightness.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Perform engine test run; in doing so, check engine cooling system for proper operation.
