Remove

1

Move camshafts to basic position.

Remove rear cover from cylinder head.

Remove the camshaft positioner of the intake camshaft.

Remove camshaft positioner of exhaust camshaft.

Remove locating tool.

Turn intake and exhaust camshafts until marking (M) on pulse wheels is visible.

Install locating tool.

 The   locating tool must be inserted in the service openings while disassembled.

 If necessary, rotate camshafts further using a   socket wrench socket until   locating tool can be inserted.

Install

Install camshaft positioner of exhaust camshaft.

Install the camshaft positioner for the intake camshaft.

Remove locating pin of crankshaft lock.

Remove locking pins of camshaft positioners.

Rotate engine by two revolutions in direction of engine rotation and set piston of cylinder 1 to ignition TDC.

Perform visual check through sensor openings at camshaft housing. The marking (M) on the pulse wheels must be visible.

 If the marking (M) is not visible, the piston of cylinder 1 is not at ignition TDC.

Install locating pin of crankshaft lock.

Install locating tool.

 The  locating tool must be inserted in the service openings in a disassembled manner.

If locating tool cannot be inserted:



Repeat adjustment.

Remove locating tool.

Install the service covers (61) of the intake and exhaust camshafts.


Do not damage the fuel high-pressure line when tightening the screws (60a, 60b).
Leaks can occur otherwise.

Install rear cover on cylinder head.

Install Hall sensor of exhaust camshaft.

Install Hall sensor of intake camshaft.

 Only install upper engine cover after the leak test.

Remove retaining lock for crankshaft.

 Do not install center and front lower engine compartment lining until after leak test.

 Warning

Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Carry out engine test run and check engine for proper leaktightness and leaktightness.

Install the center and front lower engine compartment paneling.
