Overview
This document contains information on:
General
Function
General
The coolant temperature sensor permanently records the coolant temperature. The detected coolant temperature is transmitted as a voltage signal to the combustion engine control unit.
Function
The coolant temperature sensor measures the coolant temperature and transmits a corresponding voltage signal to the combustion engine control unit.
The NTC resistor integrated in the coolant temperature sensor varies its electrical resistance according to the coolant temperature. The NTC resistor is supplied with 5 V (1 %) by the combustion engine control unit via a series resistor of 1470 Ω (1 %).
NTC (negative temperature coefficient): The electrical resistance falls as the temperature rises (NTC thermistor).
Diagnosis
The signal voltage is plausible between 0.1 V and 4.93 V. If the signal voltage is not plausible, a fault is detected and a substitute value from a stored temperature model is adopted by the combustion engine control unit.
