Mechanical combustion engine
The combustion engine as a reciprocating piston engine is characterized by its working method, which involves oscillating piston movement and internal, cyclical combustion. The mechanical interaction between different design groups allows the reciprocating piston engine to compact the fuel/air mixture and pass on the combustion pressure to the crankshaft as torque.
Heat management
Heat management controls and regulates the heat balance in the vehicle. The heat flow from one system can be used or dissipated by another system.
Fuel system
The fuel system is an assembly in the motor vehicle that ensures that the combustion engine is supplied with fuel in all operating ranges.
Engine management
The engine management includes all processes which are essential in order to achieve economic and ecological engine operation. It comprises various subsystems that intervene in the engine running with the purpose of checking, optimizing or regulating it.
Exhaust aftertreatment
The exhaust gas aftertreatment adds measures on the engine side that ensure compliance with the emissions limits in the exhaust gas required by law. It includes exhaust gas cleaning tasks for reducing and filtering existing pollutants, such as hydrocarbons (HC), carbon monoxide (CO) and nitrogen oxides (NOx). In addition, exhaust gas recirculation performed as part of the exhaust gas aftertreatment can function as a preventive measure against the formation of pollutants.
Charging
Charging causes the fresh air that was sucked in to be pre-compressed, which increases the cylinder charge level. The engine output increases as a result.
