Risk of injury caused by scraping or cutting body parts on sharp vehicle parts

Always wear protective gloves when working on or near sharp and non-deburred vehicle parts.
Deburr repair panels.

Remove the bolts (6), and remove the safety locks (5) from the threaded rings (2, 3)

Loosen the threaded rings (2, 3)

If it is difficult to loosen the threaded rings (2, 3):



Relieve the tightness of the bolts (9) of the support bearing cap (8).

Remove the screws (9) and remove the bearing cap (8)

 If necessary, unfasten the bearing cap (8) by applying small blows with a plastic hammer.

Remove the lock ring (2)

 For this, lift a little bit the bevel gear with the differential.

Remove the outer race of the tapered roller bearing (4)


Gently raise the ring gear along with the differential, so that the roller cage does not rest on the differential set housing bearings (1).
This prevents damage to the tapered roller bearings (4).

Remove the ring gear with the differential from the set housing (1)

Check

Check the contact marks between the crown and the pinion

 If necessary, replace the complete set.

If there is excessive wear on the components:



Replace ring gear and drive pinion set.

Remove/install drive pinion

Check the tapered roller bearings (4)

If there is damage to the tapered roller bearings (4):



Replace the damaged component.

Detach tapered roller bearings from differential case

Install

Install the outer race of the tapered roller bearing (4) on the bearing in the differential side

Install the screw collar (3)

 Insert the threaded ring (3) until it touches the outer race of the bearing (4).

Install the ring gear with the differential case in the housing (1) of the differential assembly


During the assembling, all support points and moving parts must be lubricated with a thin layer of lubricating oil for gear.
To prevent damages on tapered roller bearings (4) during the assembling procedure.

 The cage of the tapered rollers must not rest on the housing of the differential assembly (1).

Install the outer race of the tapered roller bearing (4) in the differential's opposite side

 If necessary, lift a little bit the differential assembly by means of the ring gear.

Install the support bearing cap (8)

Install the bolts (9) of the support roaring cap (8)

 Tighten the screws (9) with the tightening torque specified for the 1st stage.

Install the lock ring (2)

 Install the threaded ring (2) by screwing until it touches on the outer race of the tapered roller bearing (4). At the same time, spin the ring gear to center and seat the tapered roller bearings (4).
There should have some backlash between teeth the ring gear and the pinion.

Adjust the backlash between the teeth of the ring gear and the pinion

Adjust the pre-load of the tapered roller bearings (4)

Tighten screws (9)

 Tighten the bolts (9) up to the torque prescribed for the 2nd stage.

Install the safety locks (5)

 Apply the prescribed torques to the screws (6) of the threaded rings (2, 3).
