The differential and ring gear taper roller bearings should always be replaced as a set.
Remove

Install the buffer on the differential housing (2).


Only one of the two sides of the buffer fits in the differential.

Install the puller claws by the underside of the taper roller bearing cage (1).

Support the puller over the buffer and pull the taper roller bearing (1) out of the differential housing (2).
