Remove/install shift clutch of torque converter clutch

Note: Do not grease the hub of the clutch plate (2) instead the splines of the transmission input shaft must be greased lightly, added.

Removing

Remove torque converter clutch

Place converter shift clutch on the torque converter

 Secure shift clutch to prevent it from twisting.

Insert spacers (5) on clutch pressure plate (3) and detach clutch pressure plate (3) from intermediate plate (1)

 Secure clutch pressure plate (3) to prevent it from twisting.



Remove clutch disk (2) from intermediate plate (1)

Detach intermediate plate (1) from turbine shaft

 Only if the converter-shift clutch is dismantled further or there is wear in the intermediate plate (1).

Secure intermediate plate (1) to prevent it from twisting.



Checking

Check friction surfaces on clutch pressure plate (3) and clutch plate (2).

 In the event of scorch marks, score marks or cracks

Replace clutch pressure plate (3) and clutch plate (2)

Check friction surface on intermediate plate (1)

 In the event of scorch marks, score marks or cracks

Replace intermediate plate (1).

Check clutch operator with release bearing (4) for ease of movement and wear.

 if necessary:



Remove release bearing (4) on clutch pressure plate (3) and replace

Install

Install intermediate plate (1)

 Secure intermediate plate (1) to prevent it from twisting.



Place clutch disk (2) on intermediate plate (1) and center using the centering drift (6)

 Observe installation position of clutch plate (2). The collar must point away from the intermediate plate (1). Only remove the centering drift (6) after completely tightening the clutch pressure plate (3).

Note: Do not grease the hub of the clutch plate (2) instead the splines of the transmission input shaft must be greased lightly, added.



Install clutch pressure plate (3) on intermediate plate (1)

 Secure clutch pressure plate (3) to prevent it from twisting.

Tighten bolts crosswise in small increments. While tightening it should be determined continuously at the centering drift (6) whether this can be still be moved easily. If the clutch plate (2) is jammed or installed off-center, difficulties occur when installing the transmission.

Only remove the spacers (5) after tightening the clutch pressure plate (3).



Secure clutch pressure plate (3) with at least two clamping strips (14)

 The shift clutch only lies loose in the converter shift clutch housing.


