Remove/install

Warm up engine to normal operating temperature

Coolant temperature about 80°C.

Switch off engine and remove ignition key

Danger!

Risk of injury to skin and eyes caused by scalding from contact with hot coolant spray. Risk of poisoning caused by swallowing coolant.

Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90°C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers.

Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.

Open the cap on the expansion reservoir

Turn the cap counterclockwise to release overpressure, then continue turning till it is fully open.

Unscrew the oil filler cap

Remove glow plugs

(R13, R14, R15, R16)

Position piston for cylinder to be tested at ignition TDC

Connect cylinder leakage tester (2)

Calibrate testing unit. Remove check valve in screw-in fitting.

Pressurize cylinder with compressed air and read off pressure loss on testing unit (2)

If the crankshaft turns:

install retaining lock for crankshaft / ring gear.

Conduct test for other cylinders in the firing order of the engine

If a retaining lock is installed, remove it, continue turning the crankshaft, then reinstall.
