| Check | ||
1 | Close trailer hitch | Use a suitable tool to seal
2 | Swivel coupling jaw (3) all the way | The coupling jaw (3) must return to the center position automatically
Turn the coupling jaw (3) to the left and right as far as it will go, releasing it at each end position
3 | Undo and lock the locking knob (1) | To do this, rotate clips (1) through 45°.
4 | Raise coupling bolt (4) using hand lever (2) | The coupling bolt (4) must lock automatically in the raised position and the coupling jaw (3) should be in the center position.
5 | Use suitable tool to push up and actuate the coupling bolt (4) or release lever (4) | This action must release the coupling bolt (4) from its catch and latch it into the lower bearing bore.
When the coupling bolt (4) has reached the bottom position, the automatic safety mechanism must be operational.
Depending on the type of coupling the safety knob (1) must fit completely into the retaining sleeve or the check pin (6) must not project beyond its pilot bushing (8).
6 | Check pivot bearing of the clutch body (5) on the horizontal and vertical play | Horizontal play is not permissible.
The permissible vertical clearance must not be exceeded.
7 | With the trailer hitch closed, push the coupling bolts (4) up using a suitable tool | The permissible vertical clearance must not be exceeded.
8 | Measure the coupling bolt (4) | Measure the coupling bolts (4) on the crowned part longitudinally and transversely using sliding calipers or a gauge
The minimum dimension must not infringed, i.e. the gauge must not be able to slide over. Gauges are available from the manufacturer of the trailer hitch.
9.1 | Check coupling bolts (4) with closed trailer hitch | Only with Trailer hitch, Ringfeder make, code Q29
With the trailer coupling closed, measure the amount of play in the coupling bolt (4) in the lower pilot bushing (8) using a suitable tool
The permissible play must not be exceeded.
10.1 | Measure the inside diameter (A) of the lower pilot bushing (8) | Only with Trailer hitch, Rockinger make, code Q28
The maximum dimension must not be exceeded
11 | Check condition and wear of wear plate (9) or supporting ring | The towing lug must not touch the lower pilot bushing (8).
12 | Check fastening of trailer hitch | Check that the bolts fastening the trailer hitch to the end crossmember and the end crossmember to the frame are firmly in place |
Inspection data of trailer hitch, trailer coupling, fifth wheel coupling
