Damage to input fitting (3) after series production conversion
Since the introduction of the short exhaust pipe downstream of the exhaust gas turbocharger ("turbocharger flange") in engines 470.9 and 471.9 in 10/2016, the input fittings (3) of the exhaust gas aftertreatment unit (1) have been increasingly cracking. See also SI49.10-W-0014A. The damage is mostly associated with damage to the flexible element (compensator) of the flexible exhaust pipe (2) between the exhaust gas turbocharger and the exhaust gas aftertreatment unit (1).
New repair fitting (4) instead of exchanging the exhaust gas aftertreatment unit (1)
Up until now, the entire exhaust gas aftertreatment unit (1) had to be exchanged if the above-mentioned damage occurred. As of 07/2019, a repair solution is available. This means that a cracked input fitting (3) can be cut off in a defined manner and a new repair fitting (4) can be welded on in place of it.
In the event of damage within the term of warranty, this repair solution is always preferred over exchanging the exhaust gas aftertreatment unit (1).
