Wrong control units installed in vehicles
As part of the service fix (Code: ACM-CONTI) the wrong exhaust aftertreatment (ACM) control units have frequently been installed into vehicles. The reason for this is that both the exhaust aftertreatment (ACM) control unit and the engine management (MCM) control unit are only programmed for the specified vehicle or for the specified engine, and therefore they cannot be installed into another vehicle. If these control units are ordered as "in stock", and then later installed into an unsuitable vehicle, problems will arise (e.g. fault code "B30C0E Leaky exhaust system upstream of diesel particulate filter "). Some of the vehicles also experience a reduction of engine torque.
This is why we would like to expressly draw your attention to the different procedures involved in ordering the exhaust aftertreatment (ACM) and engine management (MCM) control units.
Procedure when ordering the exhaust aftertreatment (ACM) control unit
The vehicle identification number and the dummy number listed in the EPC must always be quoted when ordering the exhaust aftertreatment (ACM) control unit. The dummy number for the exhaust aftertreatment (ACM) control unit is: A 470 446 00 54
Procedure when ordering the engine management (MCM) control unit
The engine number and the dummy number listed in the EPC must always be quoted when ordering the engine management (MCM) control unit. The dummy number for the engine management (MCM) control unit is: A 470 446 00 35
Inspection of installed control unit with aid of VeDoc
The ID code read out from the control unit can be used to compare it against the ID code listed in VeDoc to determine whether the correct control unit has been installed.
This should be conducted on vehicles in which problems in the engine or exhaust system occur shortly after replacing one of the control units.
The temperature-resistant gray cable ties installed from series production onwards in the vicinity of the exhaust system may not be replaced by black cable ties.
