The trailer stabilization can stabilize the vehicle while driving with a trailer when the vehicle/trailer combination experiences snaking. Light snaking is reduced by a targeted and one-sided brake application. For severe snaking, the engine torque is also reduced and all wheels are braked.

Function
The trailer stabilization detects the rocking motion in a vehicle/trailer combination through the yawing vibrations in the towing vehicle. These yawing vibrations are triggered by the trailer. The trailer stabilization stabilizes the vehicle/trailer combination through an alternating buildup of brake pressure at the front axle and optionally also at the rear axle.
The vehicle/trailer combination can also be slowed down by reducing the engine torque and building up pressure at all wheels. The active vehicle/trailer stabilization does not change the critical speed when doing this.
The stabilization intervention is based on requirements and is adapted to the vibration characteristics. Stronger vibration characteristics lead to stronger stabilization interventions. Weaker vibration characteristics lead to weaker stabilization interventions.
If the trailer stabilization intervenes, the driver assistance functions are terminated, e.g. the Tempomat.
The ESP standard sensor system is used for the trailer stabilization, e.g. sensors for wheel speed. There are no additional sensor systems at the trailer or at the trailer coupling.
The ESP® indicator lamp flashes in the instrument cluster while the trailer stabilization is active.
