W46.25-0009-01
Warning | Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. | Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.
Warning | Risk of injury to skin or eyes from hydraulic fluid spraying out under pressure.Risk of poisoning from swallowing hydraulic fluid. | Depressurize hydraulic system completely before starting any work on it. Wear protective clothing and safety glasses.
Danger | Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off during lifting | Only lift vehicle at the lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
Warning | Danger of injury to eyes caused by steering oil emerging at high pressure. Danger of poisoning caused by swallowing steering oil | The adjustment screws for the hydraulic steering limiters must be turned in by at least three rotations. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.
Warning | Risk of injury from being trapped in the swivel range of steered axles | Ensure that no persons or objects are in the swivel range of all steered axles when turning the steering wheel. Do not stand in the swivel range of the additional steering axle when the engine is running.
Warning | Risk of injury caused by body parts being pinched or crushed as cab is tilted | Ensure that no one is within the tilting range of the cab as it is being tilted. Always tilt the cab all the way to the end position and secure with the safety strut.

| Remove | ||
1 | Switch on ignition | So that the steering can be turned and the engine can be started and stopped to allow bleeding with the cab tilted.
2 | Open maintenance flap
3 | Secure vehicle against rolling
4 | Raise 2nd steered front axle until wheels can turn freely, and jack up
5.1 | Turn steering to the right | On left-hand drive vehicles
5.2 | Turn the steering to the left | On right-hand drive vehicles
6 | Detach drag link between steering gear and steering arm of 1st front axle from steering arm of 1st front axle and fasten to drag link to 1st idler arm with a cable tie.
Secure the drag link in such a way that it can move freely when the steering is turned, and does not make contact with the shock absorber.
7 | Detach drag link between 2nd steering idler arm and steering arm of 2nd front axle from steering arm of 2nd front axle and fasten to fender bracket with a cable tie.
Secure the drag link in such a way that it can move freely when the steering is turned, and does not make contact with any adjacent component parts.
8 | Set steering gear to center position | To do so, turn the steering completely in the opposite direction. While doing this, count the number of times the steering wheel is turned. Then turn the steering back halfway and set the steering wheel to the straight-ahead position.
9 | Detach propeller shaft from propeller shaft flange at transmission and secure at side
| |||
10 | Tilt cab | ||
11 | Pour steering gear oil into oil container (1) up to "max." marking on oil dipstick | Do not seal oil container (1).
Steering gear 765.887Steering gear oil (ATF)
HEMA dual-circuit power steeringSteering gear oil (ATF)
12 | Lower cab | ||
13 | Turn steering slowly 2 times from end stop to end stop
14 | Pour steering gear oil into oil container (1) up to "max." marking on oil dipstick | Steering gear 765.887Steering gear oil (ATF)
HEMA dual-circuit power steeringSteering gear oil (ATF)
Bleeding | |||
15 | Start engine, engage forward gear and allow it to idle for approx. 1 min | Observe the steering gear oil level in the oil reservoir (1) and top up the steering gear oil if necessary. The steering gear oil level in the oil reservoir (1) must not drop below the "min." mark, otherwise air will be drawn in.
Steering gear 765.887Steering gear oil (ATF)
HEMA dual-circuit power steeringSteering gear oil (ATF)
16 | Turn steering wheel enough times to left and right onto mechanical end stop until air bubbles no longer rise in oil reservoir (1) | Observe the steering gear oil level in the oil reservoir (1) and top up the steering gear oil if necessary. The steering gear oil level in the oil reservoir (1) must not drop below the "min." mark, otherwise air will be drawn in.
Steering gear 765.887Steering gear oil (ATF)
HEMA dual-circuit power steeringSteering gear oil (ATF)
17 | Shift transmission to neutral position and switch off engine | After the engine is switched off, the steering gear oil level in the oil reservoir (1) may rise by max. 2 cm. If the steering gear oil level in the oil reservoir (1) rises by more than 2 cm, this means air is still present in the system and the bleeding process must be repeated.
| Install | ||
18 | Attach propeller shaft to propeller shaft flange of transmission
19 | Switch on ignition | So that the steering can be turned.
20.1 | Turn steering to the right | On left-hand drive vehicles
20.2 | Turn the steering to the left | On right-hand drive vehicles
21 | Remove the cable tie and install the drag link between the 2nd steering idler arm and the steering arm of the 2nd front axle on the steering arm of the 2nd front axle.
