1 | Drain the oil from the rear axle | ||

3 | Remove the rear axle cover | On axle equipped with interaxle differential, remove the cover aided with 2 screws M12x1.5. | |
4 | Remove the adjustment screw (12) with the sliding pad (11) | ||
5 | Remove the lock plate screws (1) and the lock plates (2) of the threaded rings | ||
6 | Loosen the counternut and set screw (5) from the bearing cap (3) | ||
7 | Remove screws (4) | ||
8 | Slightly tap the bearing caps (3) and remove them | Mark the bearing caps, the threaded rings and the roller bearings to prevent mixing them while install. | |
9 | Remove the threaded rings (6, 10) and the race rings of the tapered roller bearings (7, 9) | The race rings of the tapered roller bearings (7, 9) form a homogeneous set and cannot be interchanged. | |
10 | Remove the ring gear with the differential (8) from the rear axle housing | Slightly tilt the crown with the differential so that it can slide along the pinion bearing bracket. | |

12 | Check for metal particles and other metal residues laid on the cavities of the housing | Assembly: When assembling, guide down the return port of the oil baffles and lock them with a punch at three points offset by 1200. | |

Remove the deflectors, and clean the housing and the axle tubes. | |||
13 | Check the roller bearings, the threaded rings and the bearing caps for damage or wear | ||
14 | Check the wear of the sliding pad (11) of the crown backrest adjustment screw | If necessary, replace the sliding pad. | |
If the sliding pad (11) is worn: | |||

Replace the sliding pad (11) by new one. | |||

15 | Install the ring gear with the differential (8) in the rear axle housing | Lifting device | |
16 | Install the outer ring races of the tapered roller bearings (7, 9) | If the same bearings are used, observe the position marked when removing. | |
17 | Install the threaded rings (6, 10) and rotate them until they touch on the tapered roller bearings (7, 9) | ||
18 | Install the bearing caps (3) | Note the marks made while removing and the matching between the threaded ring threads on the housing and the bearing caps. | |
19 | Install the screws (4) | Make sure that the threaded rings can still be rotated. | |
Slightly lubricate the seating surface and apply a sealing compound on screws that have contact with outside atmosphere. | |||
