Modification notes
| Remove/install | ||
Danger! | Risk of injury caused by body parts being pinched or crushed as cab is tilted | Ensure that no one is within tilting range of cab as it is being tilted. Always tilt cab all the way to end position and secure with safety strut.
1.1 | Tilt cab | Model 374, 375, 673, 674, 676, 950, 952, 953, 954, 958, 970, 972, 974, 975, 976
Installation: Tilt the cab back after the leak test has been conducted
| Notes on tilting the cab | ||
1.2 | Remove service cover | Model 668, 670
2 | Remove soundproofing from frame on the left and below | Only for model 374, 375, 673, 674, 676, 950, 952, 953, 954, 958, 970, 972, 974, 975, 976.
3 | Remove MR/PLD control unit | Only for engine 904.9.
Models 374, 375, 673, 674, 676, 958, 970, 972, 975, 976
Model 668, 670 | |||
Danger! | Risk of injury to skin and eyes caused by scalding from contact with hot coolant spray. Risk of poisoning caused by swallowing coolant. | Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90°C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.
4 | Drain and collect coolant | Model 374, 375, 673, 674, 676, 950, 952, 953, 954, 958, 970, 972, 974, 975, 976
| Replace coolant | Model 668, 670 | |
| Notes on coolant | ||
5 | Remove coolant return flow line (5) on compressor (3) | Installation: Install new sealing rings (4).
| |||
6 | Remove coolant feed line (9) on compressor (3) | Installation: Install new sealing rings (10).
| |||
7 | Remove compressed air line (7) on compressor (3) | Counterhold fitting (6).
8 | Check compressed-air line (7) for carbon deposits | In the event of carbonization, also check compressed air lines between compressor (3), compressed air drier and the four-circuit protection valve, if necessary replace the carbonized parts.
9 | Disconnect suction line (8) at compressor (3)
10 | Detach power steering pump (1) from compressor (3) and remove cross plate (2) | Put power steering pump (1) with attached steering lines to one side.
| |||
11 | Remove crankshaft position sensor line at compressor (3) bracket and pull out crankshaft position sensor at timing case | Only on models 673, 674, 676
Installation: Push in crankshaft position sensor and clamping pieces all the way.
12 | Remove compressor (3) | Collect engine oil which flows out.
Installation: Possibly turn drive wheel (11) to introduce it. Tighten bolts diagonally.
| |||
13 | Remove O-ring (13) from compressor (3) | Installation: Install new O-ring (13).
14 | Clamp blocking device (16) in vise and attach compressor (3) | Only if drive gear (11) must be removed.
| |||
15 | Remove nuts (12) and detach drive gear (11) with three-arm puller (15) from compressor (3) | Only if drive gear (11) must be removed.
| |||
16 | Remove fitting (6) on compressor (3) cylinder head | Only if fitting (6) leaks.
Installation: Install new sealing rings.
| |||
17 | Install in the reverse order
18 | Check engine oil level using oil dipstick or on display, correct if necessary | Observe engine oil grade set in maintenance system or Specifications for Operating Fluids.
Danger! | Risk of accident caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running | Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
19 | Start engine | Do not rev up engine before oil pressure is indicated. The oil pressure gauge must indicate oil pressure after about 10 seconds.
20 | Switch off engine and check for leaks | Visual inspection. |
