Secure vehicle on vehicle lift

Remove oil pan

Set piston on cylinder 1 with the counterholder to TDC (ignition TDC)


The engine must not be turned back.
The timing chain can skip otherwise and cause engine damage.

 Rotate engine at crankshaft in direction of engine rotation until the 0° marking on the belt pulley/vibration damper coincides with the marking on the major assembly carrier.

Remove chain tensioner

Remove intermediate gear for control drive (6) between crankshaft and high-pressure pump drive gear (4)

Remove bearing pins (1) on slide rail (2)

Remove screw/bolt (3)

Detach high-pressure pump drive gear (4) and remove timing chain (5)



Install

Position timing chain (5) on high-pressure pump drive gear (4)

Position high-pressure pump drive gear (4) on crankcase and screw in screw/bolts (3)

 Screw/bolt, drive wheel for high-pressure pump to cylinder crankcase

Lock slide rail (2) with bearing pin (1)

Mount intermediate gear for control drive (6)

Check basic position of the balance shafts

Connect diagnostic system, read out fault memory and delete if necessary


