2 | Remove cap on the timing case (5) and mount the turning device (4) | Block cranking/blocking device (4) by inserting the pin. | |

3 | Pull crankshaft position sensor (B15) out of timing case (5) | Do not disconnect electrical connector. | |
4 | Remove two opposing bolts (1) | | |
5 | Screw centering drift (3) into threaded hole | | |
6 | Unscrew remaining bolts (1) | | |
7 | Remove flywheel (2) over the centering drifts (3) | In the case of a jammed flywheel (2) screw in two bolts (M880 or M1080) in the opposite threaded hole of the flywheel (2) and detach flywheel (2). | |

8 | Check clutch surface for scorch marks, score marks and cracks | if necessary: | |

9 | Check flange on flywheel (2) for galling by the radial sealing ring | if necessary: | |
Replace rear radial sealing ring and. | |||
install new flywheel (2). | |||
10 | Check ring gear for wear | if necessary: | |
Replace ring gear of flywheel (2). | |||
or replace flywheel (2). | |||
11 | Check locating bearing in flywheel (2) | if necessary: | |
Replace locating bearing in flywheel (2). | |||
12 | Measure shank length (L) of bolts (1) | If permissible shank length (L) is exceeded, replace bolt (1) concerned. | |

13 | Install flywheel (2) over the centering drifts (3) | Observe installation position of dowel pin in the crankshaft. Remove bolts (M880 or M1080). | |
14 | Coat bolts (1) with engine oil and screw in | Do not tighten bolts (1) yet. | |
15 | Remove centering drift (3) | ||
16 | Tighten the remaining two bolts (1) with engine oil and screw in; tighten all bolts (1) | | |
17 | Remove timing device (4) on timing case (5) and mount the cap | The cranking device (4) must be removed before the engine is started, otherwise it may damage the flywheel or the timing case (5). | |

18 | Push crankshaft position sensor (B15) all the way into the timing case (5) | Check bushing for crankshaft position sensor (B15); replace if necessary. | |
