| Remove/install | ||
1 | Remove engine cover. | Installation: Ensure correct seating of the engine cover. | |
2 | Remove engine air intake duct upstream of air filter. | ||
3 | Detach bleed hose for the crankcase ventilation system (1) to cylinder head cover (2). | ||
4 | Remove fuel injectors. | ||
5 | Unclip vacuum line for vacuum pump on engine wiring harness. | ||
6 | Remove engine wiring harness for removal of cylinder head cover (2) and place to one side. |

7 | Remove banjo bolt (4), remove return hose on rail and close off openings with suitable grommets. | Installation: Install new sealing rings. | |

8 | Unscrew screws (3) and take off cylinder head cover (2). | ||
General information on checking camshafts and bearing points of camshafts | |||
Installation: Replace seal (5) on cylinder head cover (2). Push seal (5) over the collar of the respective screw/bolts (3) and press into the slot (6) around the whole circumference. | |||

9 | Remove camshaft Hall sensor (B6/1). | When replacing cylinder head cover (2). | |
10 | Install in the reverse order. | ||
Warning | Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. | Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. | |
11 | Check leaktightness of fuel system and cylinder head cover (2) when engine is running. |
