Electronic Stability Program control unit component description

P42.45-2648-04

N47-5 ESP and BAS control unit

Location

The ESP and BAS control unit is located in the left front of the engine compartment.

Task

The ESP and BAS control unit has the following tasks:

Reading in of sensors, pickups and signals

Evaluating input factors

Control of functions

Actuation of components

Reading in of sensors, pickups and signals

The input factors are read in with the following connections:

Direct line

Private Bus

Engine compartment CAN

Direct line

The following components are read in via a direct line:

- BAS diaphragm travel sensor (A7/7b1)

- BAS release switch (A7/7s1)

- BAS solenoid valve (A7/7y1)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- ESP brake pressure sensor (B34)

- Left front rpm sensor (L6/1)

- Right front rpm sensor (L6/2)

- Left rear rpm sensor (L6/3)

- Right rear rpm sensor (L6/4)

- Right front brake pad contact sensor (S10/2)

Private Bus

The ESP and BAS control unit reads in the data from the rotational speed and lateral acceleration sensor (B24/15) via the private bus.

Engine compartment CAN

The ESP and BAS control unit reads in function-relevant information via the engine compartment CAN.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Evaluation of input factors

The input factors that have been read in are evaluated by the integrated microprocessor and the relevant components are then actuated.

Control of functions

The ESP safety system incorporates the following functions:

- Electronic Stability Program (ESP)

- Acceleration Slip Regulation (ASR)

- Engine braking regulation (EBR)

- Antilock brake system (ABS)

- Electronic brake force distribution (EBV)

- Brake Assist (BAS)

- Tire pressure loss warning (with code (477) Tire pressure loss warning)

- Cruise control

- Limiter

Actuation of components

Components are actuated with the following lines:

Direct line

Engine compartment CAN

Direct line

The following components are actuated via a direct line:

- Stop lamp actuation via rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2)

- SPS [PML] solenoid valve (Y10) (with code (213) Speed-sensitive power steering)

Engine compartment CAN

The ESP and BAS control unit transmits requests for function-relevant actuations via the engine compartment CAN.

Variants

- Basic variant

- Vehicles with speed-sensitive power steering
(with code (213) Speed-sensitive power steering)
