| Check | ||
1 | Check the suspension and steering system | Before initiating the steering geometry measurements, check the conditions of suspension and steering components: tension bars and terminals, air suspension bellows, hub bearings, tie rod end, springs bushings and steering knuckle bushing for any wear or clearances. Clearances in these components can change the angle values of the steering geometry.
Observe the coincidence of the assembly reference marks on the arm and face of the top end of the steering box sector shaft.
2 | Calibrate the tires observing the pressure table according to the load to be transported | Observe that tires worn of the same axle must be equal. Codes of weight, pressure and maximum speed are engraved on the side of the tire.
Tires must be calibrated when they are in ambient temperature.
3 | Preparation for inspections | Check on the perfect leveling between the rotating plates on the right and left side. Maximum difference between the plates: 1 mm
Observe also the leveling between the bearing sides of both front wheels on the rotating plates and the bearing side of the rear wheels on the ground. If necessary, put wedges with the same thickness of the plates under the rear wheels for leveling.
4 | Place the front wheels in the center of the rotating plates, driving the vehicle forward in a straight line
5 | Install the suspension and geometry verification devices in the front and rear wheels of the vehicle | For an accurate installation of device components and correct verification sequence, refer to the guidelines in the manufacturer's manual.
In the steering geometry and axles alignment verification of the bus RSD equipped with 3 axles, the suspension and verification devices are installed in the front axle and third rear drive axle (traction). The 2nd axle (truck) must be aligned having the already aligned 3rd traction axle as a reference.
The verification of the steering geometry and of the articulated buses (UPA) axles alignment occurs after the installation of verification devices on the front axle of the front section and on the 3rd axle (traction) of the rear section (articulated). The alignment of the rear axle that supports the front section is carried out according to the already aligned traction axle.

6 | Camber | For the correct camber angle adjustment procedure, follow the guidelines in the manufacturer's manual of geometry verification device.
Vehicles 368.00/10, 382.15/17/18, 384.06/07/21/22, 634.01, 688.15/27, 979.27Camber
Type 368.05/05/15/15, 384.31/33Camber
7 | Caster | For the correct verification sequence procedure, refer to guidelines in the manufacturer's manual.
Due to the need of front wheels steering 20° inward and outward in the caster verification, make sure brake is applied to the wheels otherwise it may result in reading errors.
Vehicles 368.00/10, 382.15/17/18, 384.06/07/21/22, 634.01, 688.15/27, 979.27Caster

8 | Kingpin inclination | During the caster angle and kingpin inclination verification, when the wheels are steered 20° inward and outward, the divergence angle on turns of the wheels that are steered outward (wheel inside of the turn) can also be calculated. When one of the wheels is steered 20° inward, the wheel on the other side (steered outward) must have a steering angle higher than 20° = divergence angle. The divergence angle values in the curves is recorded by the rotating plates. Differences in the values of divergence angle on turns in the left and right side indicate deformations in the steering arms, which determine the Ackerman quadrilateral; in this case, arms must be replaced. For more details on the verification of divergence angle on turns, refer to the manufacturer's manual.
In the same way as in the caster angle verification, to check kingpin inclination angle, make sure brake is applied to the wheels steered 20° inward and outward otherwise it may result in angle reading error. For the correct verification sequence procedure, refer to guidelines in the manufacturer's manual.

9 | Toe-in | Measure the wheel alignment (toe-in) following guidelines in the manufacturer's manual. In case of a device that checks the toe-in starting from the central line of the vehicle regarding each front wheel, the total toe-in value will be the sum of the two wheels toe-in. E.g.: Toe-in on the right: 0.25 mm + Toe-in on the left: 0.25 mm = Total toe-in: 0.50 mm.
Vehicles 368.00/10, 382.15/17/18, 384.06/07/21/22, 634.01, 688.15/27, 979.27Wheel alignment
Vehicles 368.05/15, 384.31/33Wheel alignment/convergence
10 | Maximum steering angle | The maximum steering angle is obtained when the front wheels are totally steered to the right and left. These angle values are recorded in the scales of the rotating plates of the steered wheels on both sides and can be corrected by adjusting the length of the screws that limit the steering, located on the steering knuckles.

You must calibrate the tires, level the aligner, use the vehicle-compatible software in computer aligners and fully control the operation of the assessment device. |
