Secure vehicle against rolling

 Danger!

Risk of explosion caused by escaping oxyhydrogen gas. Risk of injury caused by caustic burns to eyes, skin and mucous membranes from battery electrolyte (contains diluted sulfuric acid) or metal spatter due to short circuit. Risk of burn injuries caused by short circuit. Risk of poisoning caused by swallowing battery electrolyte (contains diluted sulfuric acid) or absorption of lead over the skin or orifices

No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking.

Wear acid-resistant gloves and clothing and safety glasses with side guards.

Do not place any conductive objects on the battery and avoid any short circuit from battery positive to ground.

Only fill liquid battery electrolyte (diluted sulfuric acid) into suitable and appropriately marked containers.

Disconnect electrical line on the battery

Detach engine compartment paneling under the transmission

 Danger!

Risk of injury to skin and eyes caused by scalding from contact with hot coolant spray. Risk of poisoning caused by swallowing coolant.

Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90°C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers.

Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.

Separate electrical connections at the transmission

Detach cable retainer (8) from transmission

Remove exhaust system

 The exhaust system tailpipe must not be removed.

Remove oil cooler (9)

Detach propeller shaft from transmission output flange (3)

Mark the installation position of the propeller shaft on the sliding piece.

 Installation: Replace the nuts and note marking.



Detach braces of engine compartment paneling on underbody

Support transmission underneath and secure to prevent it from falling down

Remove bolts (10) of transmission bracket

 The bolts (10) of the right-hand transmission bracket are located under the small maintenance cover in the center aisle, on the right of the transmission maintenance flap.

Install turning device (7) for starter ring gear on the inspection hole of the timing case



Remove bolts (4), torque converter to drive plate

 By turning the engine with the aid of the turning device the bolts (4) become accessible in sequence and can be unscrewed.



Remove bolts (5), transmission to timing case



Remove transmission

 Pull back the transmission about 8 cm until the transmission shaft (6) is free then lower.

 Installation: Lubricate the transmission shaft (6) lightly. Do not tilt the transmission when installing. The transmission flange must abut the engine timing case.


