Danger ! | Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. | Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.
Danger ! | Risk of injury to skin and eyes suffering scalding from contact with hot coolantspray. Risk of poisoning from swallowing coolant. | Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90 °C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers.
| Notes on coolant | ||
| Remove | ||
1 | Start engine and bring to operating temperature
2 | Switch off engine and allow to cool off for approx. 30 min. | Therefore any oil in the expansion reservoir can settle.
3 | Check whether the oil is in the expansion reservoir | If there is oil in the expansion reservoir:
| |||
Suction coolant/oil mixture from the expansion reservoir.
Dispose of suctioned off coolant/oil mixture.
4 | Remove expansion reservoir
5 | Drain coolant completely |

Flushing | |||
6 | Disconnect feed hose and return hose of the heater
7 | Flush heater with fresh water | If possible use hot or warm water. Dispose of rinsing water in an environmentally friendly way.
8 | Attach feed hose and return hose of the heater again
9 | Disconnect coolant hoses at the interfaces between engine and cooler
10 | Flush out engine and cooler with fresh water | If possible use hot or warm water. Dispose of rinsing water in an environmentally friendly way.
11 | Attach coolant hoses at the interfaces between engine and cooler
Remove oil | |||
12 | Mix a 3% cleaning solution of the mild-alkali cleaner and fresh water
Mixing ratio: 30 ml cleaner to 1 l of fresh water.
Cleaner for engine and cooling system for oil drag-in, 10 l
13 | Flush expansion reservoir with the 3percent cleaning solution
14 | Install expansion reservoir
15 | Fill cooling system with the 3percent cleaning solution
16 | Set heater to max. heat output
17 | Start the engine and allow to warm up a 87°C coolant temperature, hold at this coolant temperature for about 5 min. | Cover the cooler at the front if necessary.
18 | Switch off engine and allow coolant temperature to cool down to approx. 50°C
19 | Drain cleaning solution completely from the cooling system
Dispose of cleaning solution in an environmentally acceptable manner.
20 | Flush out cooling and heating system with fresh water at least twice | To flush with fresh water perform the operation steps 5 to 10.
21 | Check flushing water of the last flushing process for oil | The deoiling must be repeated if there is still oil in the flushing water:
| |||
Perform work from operation step 11.
22 | Check acid content of the flushing water of the last flushing process with a test strip | The test strips are obtainable in the EPC and display the pH value.
If the flushing water of the last flushing process is not pH neutral, the flushing process must be repeated once:
| |||
Perform operation steps 6 to 11.
| |||
23 | Pour in coolant |
