Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform.

Align vehicle between the columns of the lifting platform and position the four support plates at the lifting platform support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.

Unbolt steering gear from front axle

Only slide steering gear to one side.

Inspect rack (2) and axial joint of inner track rod for corrosion and play

If the rack is already corroded and the steering gear has a leak as a result, it is then necessary to replace the complete steering gear:

Unscrew inner tie rod with axial joint (1) from the toothed rack (2)

To unscrew, attach the 41 mm open end wrench bit (01) to the axial joint and counterhold toothed rack with an open end wrench (arrow). Counterholding with the open end wrench protects the tooth flanks of the toothed rack. The transfer of torque to the toothed rack would lead to damage to the tooth flanks and result in replacement of the complete steering gear.

Install

Screw the inner tie rod with axial joint (1) onto the toothed rack (2)

When screwing on counterhold the toothed rack with an open end wrench (arrow). Counterholding with the open end wrench protects the tooth flanks of the toothed rack. The transfer of torque to the toothed rack would lead to damage to the tooth flanks and result in replacement of the complete steering gear.

Use new bolts.
