Remove

Remove transfer case.

Use suitable tool to pry radial shaft sealing ring (2) out of transmission housing of automatic transmission (1).


Do not damage transmission housing of automatic transmission (1) and power output shaft (3).
Otherwise leakage may occur.



Check

Check seating of radial shaft sealing ring (2) in transmission housing for damage.

In the event of a problem,



Replace transmission housing.

Check sealing surfaces of radial shaft sealing ring (2) on transfer case for galling and corrosion.

If the sealing surfaces of the radial shaft sealing ring (2) on the transfer case are corroded.



Eliminate corrosion using suitable means.

If galling is present on the transfer case.



Replace transfer case.



Install

Moisten sealing lip of new radial shaft sealing ring (2) with transmission oil.



Automatic transmission fluids (ATF) (specification 236.17)

Press new radial shaft sealing ring (2) using drift far enough into automatic transmission (1) until the drift makes contact with the transmission housing.

Install transfer case.

 Install left underfloor paneling and lower engine compartment lining only after the leak tightness and function test.

Fill automatic transmission (1) with oil.

 Install left underfloor paneling and lower engine compartment lining only after the leak tightness and function test.



Check

 Warning

Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Conduct engine test run and check automatic transmission (1) for leak tightness and proper operation.



Install

10

Install underfloor paneling at left.
