Remove

Perform guided test on fully integrated transmission control unit (VGS) (N15/11n4) using vehicle diagnosis system.



Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS and read out fault memory

 Before removal of the fully integrated transmission control (VGS) electric controller unit (N15/11) the guided test must be conducted with the diagnostic system, and the characteristics stored in the fully integrated transmission control unit (N15/11n4) transferred.

Remove fully integrated transmission control (VGS) electric controller unit (N15/11).

The Specifications for Operating Fluids must be observed.
This avoids any damage to the transmission.

 The fully integrated transmission control (VGS) electric controller unit (N15/11) consists of the valve body assembly (7) and the fully integrated transmission control unit (VGS) (N15/11n4).

 

Disassemble/assemble

Remove bolts (1).

 Bolt, leaf spring for solenoid valve to timing case

Remove leaf springs (2).

Remove all control solenoid valves.



Automatic transmission fluids (ATF) (specification 236.15)

 Assembly:
The Specifications for Operating Fluids must be observed.
Otherwise damage will occur.

 Assembly: Always install each control solenoid valve in its original installation position again. Moisten the sealing rings with transmission oil.



Clean

Clean sieves of all control solenoid valves.

Automatic transmission fluids (ATF) (specification 236.15)

 Assembly:
Before installation, clean sieve of control solenoid valve by swirling it around in gear oil. Do not clean any parts of the fully integrated transmission control (VGS) electric controller unit (N15/11) with rags or compressed air.
Otherwise damage may occur.

Unscrew bolt (3a).

 Assembly: Replace bolt (3a).

Remove bolts (3b).

Remove fully integrated transmission control unit (VGS) (N15/11n4).

 Assembly:
Make sure that the retaining rib, which is located under the output shaft rpm sensor (N15/11n3) is correctly positioned (see picture).
Otherwise, the fully integrated transmission control unit (VGS) (N15/11n4) may be damaged.

 Assembly: Press the spring pin (5) from the repair kit all the way in by hand.

 Assembly: Check shift valve (6a) is correctly seated in fully integrated transmission control (VGS) electric controller unit (N15/11).



Clean

Clean magnet (6) of shift valve (6a).

 Use a lint-free rag to remove shavings from magnet (6) of shift valve (6a).

Assemble in the reverse order.



Install

Install fully integrated transmission control (VGS) electric controller unit (N15/11).

Automatic transmission fluids (ATF) (specification 236.15)

 Coat sealing rings (4d) on connector (4e) with gear oil. After installing a new fully integrated transmission control (VGS) electric controller unit (N15/11) or a new fully integrated transmission control unit (VGS) (N15/11n4), the stored data must be copied before removal into the new fully integrated transmission control unit (VGS) (N15/11n4). Make sure that the diagnostic system used before removal is also used for installation.

 After installing the new fully integrated transmission control (VGS) electric controller unit (N15/11) or a new fully integrated transmission control unit (VGS) (N15/11n4), the stored adaptation values are then accepted. Transmission adaptation is only necessary after further repair measures.
